The Chubbs McGee Rating System

Inspired by Jadenne; Jina, Tessa, and I came up with this new rating system. Thus, all restaurants, food, and beverages
that I try will be rated by the following:

"Chubbs McGee Approved" - The best rating you can get.

"Grood" - Great? I mean good? Great and Good!

"WHATEVA" - eh. so-so. whateva.

"FAIL: Chubbs McGee Does Not Approve" - The worst rating you can get.

Chubbs McGee

"Chubbs McGee Approved"

About a week ago, I got this email from Joanne about my adorable god daughter.

"Just had to share this story with you guys... This morning my mom tells me a story about Jadenne during my cousin's viewing last night. She tells me that they almost lost her. Of course my reaction was like WHAT!! She said that she could see her running around but when my dad asked where she was they couldn't find her. They checked all the rooms in the mortuary and my parents couldn't find. Apparently everyone was looking for her and couldn't find her. They finally found her hiding. She was hiding in a small spot behind the podium in the front, where we gave our eulogies for my grandma. The funny part is that she wasn't hiding because she was playing hide and seek, but she was hiding because someone gave her chocolate and she didn't want anyone to see her eat it cuz she knows she's not allowed! So she can have her chocolate in peace without her getting in trouble haha...I told my mom after that only Jadenne would do something like this haha Hope this story is a good start to your day!! haha ~Joanne~"

Valentine Red Velvet Luvin'

I know it's been a long time - and I apologize. I had to put the blog on hiatus because I was completing my doctoral exams. But those are over now! woo woo! And I'm officially a doctoral candidate!!!

Now let's get down to business. Since I was so stressed and basically went under self-imposed sequestration, I took the entire long/valentine's day weekend to recover. Of course, eating played a huge role in my recovery.

The highlight of my eating experience last weekend would definitely have to be Valentine's Day Breakfast. Glenn offered to take me out to dinner for V-Day, but I didn't really feel like stressing over reservations or dressing up. Like, I said, I needed a STRESS FREE weekend.

Instead, we decided to celebrate over breakfast at the Brunch Cafe (which I mentioned in a previous post). Let me take a moment here to express my love for brunch and breakfast foods in general. If I had to choose between going out with friends for dinner or brunch, I would always choose brunch. I would never go to brunch or breakfast with strangers, but I'd probably go to a dinner. And that's because there's something so intimate about starting your day with people you care about over a meal. Breakfast food is about comfort, and I like to eat comfort foods with people who are special to me.

Anyways, because it was Valentine's Day, the Brunch Cafe served some pretty amazing specials.
The most noteworthy would be the Red Velvet Pancakes!!

I absolutely looooove Red Velvet Cake. I have to admit that my fascination with this delicious confection stems from my obsession with the movie Steel Magnolias. No matter how many times I watch this movie, it always makes me cry, and always at the same scene. You know, the one where Sally Fields is sobbing and yelling out "Why Shelby?? WHY???"

So you can only imagine my excitement when the waitress told me that because it was Valentine's Day the had Red freaking Velvet pancakes!!! Just thinking about it makes me want to squeal with delight.

What I particularly loved about these pancakes were that they had the subtle cocoa flavor of red velvet cakes but maintained the fluffy texture that makes pancakes so great. They served the pancakes with whipped cream, powdered sugar, strawberry syrup, and fresh strawberries. I think the toppings were fitting because if they had tried to do a cream cheese type of syrup, it would've overwhelmed the pancakes.

Sigh. It was the best Valentine's Day. No pretentiousness, no waiting to be seated, and no wasting money.
